(This program is referring to the Bloodborne Pathogens Standards regarding Biological Agents) With the high risk of HIV and/or AIDS infection, it has been regulated that all safety programs must address this issue. Employees in the construction industry mostly at risk are those who provide first aid in emergency situations. Employees trained in First Aid and CPR are not required to render first aid, but if they do, they need to know how to be protected from exposure, and if exposed, what procedures will be taken. Exposure can also occur when employees are on a work site where drug activities have taken place and discarded needles remain
- Design a simple written plan that will eliminate or minimize employee exposure
- Define the exposure and method of
- Define and train your employees how to limit exposure (compliance)
- Define how to report exposure and what would then take place (Post Exposure Reporting & Investigation)
- Have a plan for Post Exposure Evaluation and Follow UP (Employers are required to offer post-exposure treatment. If the employee declines, a Vaccination Declination Form should be signed by both the employee and employer)
- Define how and when this information will be given to employees (training)
- Document the training
